Bitchin’ Cleanup At Lagoona Kahuna!

May 23, 2022

If it's Friday at Bitchin' HQ, it's V-T-O Time! Half of every Friday at Bitchin' Sauce is given to "Volunteer Time Off", where our full, Totally Bitchin' Team is sent into the community to get hands-on with local organizations that need a hand (or thirty).

May marks our (literal) Big Kahuna of VTO Events. Down at the idyllic Agua Hedionda Lagoon in Carlsbad, your Saucy Crew participated in the Lagoona Kahuna Challenge, a mad-dash competition to collect trash, weeds, and invasive species from the shores of this cherished local haunt. Presented by the gosh darn amazing folks at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation, this event has a big place in our hearts. Who says environmental care can't also double as a fun-in-the-sun, team-sport extravaganza?

This was Team Bitchin's second year competing, taking on eight other local companies. With nearly 3 dozen pairs of hands on deck, team Bitchin' collected a whopping 268.5lbs of trash, filling 8 full-size trash bags, plus another 23 bags filled with weeds and invasive plants. That's a lotta garbagio!

The Foundation also awards special kudos to the most... ahem, special finds. Our highlights: A decades-old plastic bucket filled with cement, and an abandoned anchor buried feet below the sand. Who knew pirates lived off the shores of the lagoon back in the day?

It's always extra Bitchin' seeing immediate results from our volunteering efforts, all of which are coordinated by our wonderful Bitchin' Givin' team. Big thanks to the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation for hosting such a Bitchin' environmental cleanup. See ya again next year!
